Legal professionals take on a lot of responsibilities: advocate, community organizer, and the occasional shoulder to cry on. While much of what they do can go unnoticed much of the time, each year the WSBA recognizes and honors legal professionals from around the state who demonstrate exceptionalism.
This year is no different. In our profile of the 2024 Acknowledging Professional Excellence (APEX) Award winners, featured in the latest issue of Washington State Bar News, we have tales of moral conviction, personal sacrifice, and bravery. Previous APEX Award winner Michael Goldenkranz writes that it’s the time of year “when state and county bars select and honor those nominated by their peers, colleagues, and clients who have made a truly significant and enduring difference. And while there are far too many unsung heroes among our Bar, I have for many years looked forward to reading the bios and accomplishments of those selected by the WSBA for its annual APEX Awards.” (Make sure to watch their videos, too, but–fair warning – have a tissue on hand!)
Also in the September issue of Bar News, you can learn more about new lawyer licensing pathways in the second installment of our ongoing coverage of this significant issue. The July/August issue of Bar News focused on the NextGen Bar Exam. This month, we take a look at other alternative pathways to licensure with an in-depth Q&A to address your most-pressing questions.
Then see our analysis of the Washington Uniform Family Law Arbitration Act, read about RPC 6.1 and reporting of pro bono hours, check in with the WSBA Small Town and Rural (STAR) Committee, learn about the WSBA Member Wellness Program’s Pathways to Productivity Group, get caught up on the ethics of navigating conflicts that arise from sanctions motions, and much more.
