One of my favorite WSBA staff traditions is our annual holiday auction for charity. WSBA employees exercise their baking, crafting, building, and other Martha Stewart-esque talents to create items for both live and silent auctions. Then we take a number and empty our wallets for charity.
WSBA Staff’s favorite condiment: Mui’s Legendary Hot Sauce.
Hot items (literally) in this year’s charity auction included several jars of a now-legendary homemade hot sauce (over $100 each), a “Curl up and Relax” gift basket ($105), a handmade “CAT-4” garden trellis (a bargain at $90, as it’s guaranteed to survive a category-4 hurricane or four cats!), the complete series of The Man from U.N.C.L.E. ($90), as well as lots of delicious baked goods, gift certificates, and hand-crafted items.
Our charity of choice for the past several years has been Treehouse, a nonprofit committed to improving the lives of Washington kids living in foster care. This year, we raised over $4,000 for their programs. Treehouse helps foster children by providing a free “store” for clothing, school supplies, and other essentials, paying for normal childhood experiences like sports registration fees, a graduation cap and gown, summer camp, holiday gifts, and educational advocacy.
